And then: Creed James

May 14, 2020 by Adrienne

So, my appointments went well. Ultrasound showed baby head down. I can’t tell you how relieved that made me! He also measured 9lbs 3oz. Eek. Big boy.

Next up: midwife’s office. She offered to check me. With all the contractions I’d been having, I couldn’t resist. I got an “oh! Wow!” Dilated to 5cm. At 36 weeks, 3 days. What?! We made a plan to induce by breaking waters on May 31. Baby is big.

I ran errands. Had lunch with my husband. Got home about 2:30, and was getting thoroughly annoyed at the level of pain the contractions I was having were causing. I decided maybe it was time to install the car seat in the van. I bought a new one on a Black Friday sale last fall, but it was still in pieces in the box. We got it in, but I had to stop and breathe through contractions more than once. Good grief. What is this?!

By 4:00 I texted Blaine and asked him to come home from work. My labor with Pierce, starting out dilated to 6cm and over in 30 minutes scrolled through my head. He got home about 4:30, and I got kids working on packing bags for baby and I. I was hurting and sitting on the couch. We waited for the girls to get home from work. I wasn’t moaning through contractions yet, so I had time. We got to the hospital about 6:30. Got checked in, checked for dilation. 8cm. That was at 7:10. Moved to a delivery room, and at 7:41pm May 13, gave birth to Creed James. I’d hoped to deliver water intact. I almost made it. It broke as he came out. 3.5 weeks early, 21.5” long, 9lbs 2oz. He. Is. Big. He joins the ranks of both Sterling and Stellan with his exact weight.

We’re doing well. We’re in the hospital until tomorrow morning hopefully. Creed’s blood sugar levels are being frustrating because of gestational age, size, and my gestational diabetes. He’s amazing, chill, and I can’t wait to take him home and introduce him to his siblings. He has no idea what he’s in for!

Congratulations! There is nothing like being Done with the pregnancy and have the sweet little (or big!) one in your arms. So happy for you, friend. Go home and rest up! Make those older kids do all the work for a while.

That’s my plan! I’m thankful for children who run the house about as well as I can. Creed and I have snuggling to do. 💚

Over 9 lbs and early. You were very worried. So glad it all worked out so well.

I was. Everything seemed so off. I am strongly suspicious he wasn’t as early as we think. Craziness.

Oh my goodness! Congratulations! I bet the rest of the kids are enjoying the baby, too. I don’t have much experience with newborns but I know it’s a happy energy they bring into a home. Hope you’re both home and resting. God bless you!
