Done. With so many things.

May 21, 2017 by Adrienne

We’re done with school!!!! Co-op is done got the summer! Awana is finished!

Well, done except for the English book Eden’s working on finishing asap. And handwriting for Sterling, Ruby, Charlotte, and Pierce. That’ll go all summer.

But hooray, the rest is in the books. I. Am. Done.

Cause for celebration, I tell you.

In other news, I sewed this week. It had been ages. I made myself two shirts, and Ruby a skirt. It was lovely to have time to devote to that.

Blaine bleached and pressure washed the house today. I have some trim to paint now, but otherwise it looks amazing. I had a moment there though, wishing I could bring that machine in and clean my floors with it. I’m sure my kitchen tile could benefit.

I started a new chore accountability system. Each capable kid (i.e. not Stellan) has a jar with popsicle sticks. Each stick has one of that child’s chore written on it. It gets moved to the communal “done” jar when they complete it. Each stick has a fingernail polish dot of that child’s color on it to keep them straight. So far, there’s much enthusiasm about it. And it requires little from me. It may survive long term at this rate. Chores are done, teeth are brushed, and I don’t have to remind anyone. I like this.

I got a new cell! It has wifi assisted calling! I have, for the first time in many years, a cell phone that I can talk on in the valley we call home. I keep forgetting that it just works, freezing when I talk for fear I drop the call. It’s a little thing , and yet not. I haven’t just talked to someone in ages!

And… Stellan weaned from nursing. As the last baby, Lord willing, it was bittersweet. Breastfeeding has never been something I have loved, but it’s been such a huge part of life for so many years. I look forward to moving into the next stages, but there’s still a part of me that can’t believe that’s over.

It’s been a strange week. Odd to finish things and realize how fast time is flying. I’ll have a 9th grader next year. The hours can drag, but the days fly and the years speed faster all the time.

CONGRATULATIONS on all you are finished with for a while at least. Then the one that you may be finished with forever. HA!!

Sounds like you have a good chore system for everyone. Makes it much more pleasant when everyone is happy.

Hope you’ll have a great safe summer.

I want to see what you made!

Good job on finishing for the year. What made you decide to homeschool in the first place? You are a super mamma! I think I would go bananas.

I’ll get pictures and post them.

I was homeschooled and knew I wanted that for my kids. It was one of the things Blaine and I discussed even while dating.

I don’t go bananas very often. There are moments…
