TOS Review: FishFlix.com

October 14, 2015 by Adrienne

I’ve reviewed FishFlix.com once before, so when I saw the offer to review them again, I was excited to check out what they were offering up for review. I requested and received to review the DVD When Calls the Heart, Heart of the Family, the third film in the 2nd season of When Calls the Heart from bestselling author Janette Oke. While I’ve read every book that was available by Janette Oke when I was in high school, it’s been ages and my kids haven’t read any of her books. I knew from that experience, though, that this would be a wholesome movie I could pop in for the whole family to watch and enjoy. I’d yet to see any of these movies, but I’d heard nothing but good about them. One Sunday evening we put in the movie and the whole family settled in for a fun family movie night.

FishFlix.com Review no 2
Main character Elizabeth moves into Hope Valley, the new school teacher from a seemingly wealthy family. She volunteers to look after the family of a man who needs to travel away for a few days, and life on the homestead proves difficult – but she proves herself. When Jack offers his help, you practically swoon… it’s perfect. The town has it’s secrets though, with counterfeiting coming to the forefront, meanwhile Elizabeth’s friend from the past comes visiting and obviously wants more from her. The story is a bit fairy tale, ending as you’d expect, but I find that to be fairly typical for Christian fiction. It made for a clean family movie, and a movie fitting to bear the FishFlix.com name. They carry a huge variety of DVD’s, from educational to this obviously more lighthearted one.

Let’s just say the kids were disappointed… when it ended! Sterling (age 8) wasn’t so excited about the romance, but even he got drawn into the story. I’m not sure my husband was exactly enthralled, but he watched the whole movie with us willingly. The girls (ages 12, 10, 7, and 5) and I especially enjoyed it. Even my really little ones hung out for the duration of the movie. The acting is well done, the video ran smoothly for the most part – it did jump at one point for no apparent reason. The disc was clean, never handled by small children, and not scratched. I’m not sure what was up but it was a minor hiccup.

We found nothing objectionable. The movie was clean, a fun romance that left you wishing for another episode but I had no regrets in not previewing this before I put it in for the kids too. Obviously that was a personal choice – but it was fine for us. I’m sure the kids had conversations they didn’t understand, but they all enjoyed it regardless.

FishFlix.com has When Calls the Heart, Heart of the Family listed for $9.97, 50% off retail. The DVD runs for just under an hour and a half.

Find FishFlix.com on the web! They are on Pinterest, Google+, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.

Check out the Review Crew Blog! A few different movie options were available from FishFlix.com – they all looked quite good and made choosing which one I’d like to review a difficult choice. Check them out!
