We finished the vomit bug, spent several days well, went to co-op yesterday, and got the dreaded news last night that a child at co-op had been found to have lice.
Oh. My. Word. Please no.
I went into full panic mode. I have a lot of heads of long hair that cause an all out panic attack when I consider dealing with lice. I had Liberty wash Elliot’s hair in tea tree oil shampoo. Then I read about olive oil soaks. I soaked all the kids’ hair in olive oil for an hour from 9pm-10pm last night. Washing it out of everyone’s hair took almost an hour after that.
And then the kids got up with Blaine and watched the blood/blue moon at 5am. And stayed up after because… schoolwork.
So today we’re all dragging. And I’m washing every piece of laundry that went to co-op yesterday. Like these shirts. Because briefly, ever so briefly, I felt like I had it all together. I’d rounded up red and black plaid shirts from five stores until I had one for each child, and they all wore them to co-op.
These are are the days. I might not miss this one though.

I’ve heard that lice HATE strong dandruff shampoo. Something to consider. Easier to deal with than oils. I sincerely hope you do not get headlice.

Good to know! Thanks! I’m willing to try anything. Makes me crawly just to consider the possibility.

Oh no!! Bless you!! I worked in the school system for over 25 years. Every time there was a lice check I felt like they were all over me. I have very long hair and I was always petrified I would get them. Thank the LORD I never did.
Adrienne says
It’s a scary thought! I was itchy just reading the articles about prevention and treatment last night. So gross!
Alicia says
IF you find lice, mayo in a shower cap, overnight will suffocate them. Nasty to wash out, but they will be gone. Good luck.
Adrienne says
I knew I’d heard something about lice and mayo. Thanks!
