Merry Christmas!

December 25, 2014 by Adrienne

Merry Christmas!

Pierce came to me while I was in the shower this morning fussing that Charlie had pinched his cheek. Rather uncharacteristic for her, I asked Pierce why she’d done it.

“I don’t know. She told me she wouldn’t worship me and then she pinched my cheek!”

“Um, she’s not supposed to worship you, dude. You aren’t God.” His face fell. “But she’s not supposed to pinch you either.” His face lit up. He knew he had to be right somewhere in all of this!

We’re improving. Charlie, as expected, woke up sick in the night and was sick yesterday. Today she’s tired but up and going again. It seems to have hit me the worst and Blaine and Ellie remain well.

Fried turkeys, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans, and pies are our planned supper. I made a cream pie, a pumpkin pie, and a vinegar pie this morning. Vinegar pie remains the favorite around here among the kids and I. It’s become a fun tradition. I’ll type up the recipe and share it later.

Liberty, Eden, and Ruby are loving new Birkenstocks like mine, Sterling is sporting new cowboy boots, (shoes were the cool thing this Christmas, it seems) Charlotte has a new big doll she’d desperately wished for, Pierce has more pieces for the train set, and Ellie could care less so I got her what I wanted for her – a plate that grips the table and a Bubba water bottle to match the rest of us. Blaine gave me a new 7.5 quart cast iron pot that will serve me well. Church this morning had Ellie, Pierce, Charlotte, and I home keeping our germs to ourselves, but it’s been a fun day in spite of it all.

What are your favorite Christmas traditions?

No, despite Pierce’s desire to be worshipped, no one is indulging him! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!
